There is no needle size or gauge on this pattern. You may use any needle size you are comfortable with. If you are a loose knitter a smaller sized needle helps the pattern pop out a little better.
Throughout this pattern if you see a "B" that stands for border. And will indicate that you are to use these three stitches for that border stitch... K1, P1, K1

Your cherries dishcloth is SO cute. I just started knitting recently, and have made several of the standard Grandmother's Dishcloth. Now I may need to get more "fancy" and follow your pattern for these cute cherries.
